Although its creation may be even older if we consider the pigments used by Egyptian and Greek cultures, lipstick as we know it is in its first century and remains a complex symbol of femininity.

The history of lipstick may be even older if we consider the primary makeup of women in ancient times. In some parts of Egypt, certain natural pigments served as the basis for today's makeup. Waxes were blended to create certain colors that were used on the eyes and lips, but in principle, these were only allowed for the aristocratic social class. In Greece, women painted their lips to indicate that they were prostitutes, while in Rome, upper-class women did so.

But the revolution would come in 1915 from the hands of American manufacturer Maurice Levy.
